RIDE WITH THE ROCKERS 2008
Ride With The Rockers
by Adrian Pancaldi
Ton Up Boys M.C held their 12th annual Ride With The Rockers Day on
the 12th of October, 2008 in Sydney. As well as celebrating the 70th
Anniversary of the Ace Café London, this year’s event also saw the
launch of the new quarterly magazine from the US, “Café Racer”.
We couldn’t have asked for a better start, with the sun shining
strong everyone headed to Love #3 café in Barr St, Camperdown for
a caffeine hit and ice breaking session. Bikes rode in from every
direction and it was soon obvious that the British were making their prescence
felt. There were also the usual suspects from Italy, America, Japan
and even India. At last count we had 100 plus bikes for the off.
International guests were a few guys working in Sydney from Canada, who’d
shipped in bikes for their stay.
The run North went pretty much without incident, bar a couple of minor
break downs. This is pretty good going when a fair percentage of the tackle
was 30 years and counting!
After a pit stop at the Mobil Berowra, we took the old road to the last
exit to Brooklyn (great name for a movie!) and onto the Angler’s Rest for
a great feed in great company. There was enough time to again check
out some of the machines lining the street and carpark. Triton,
Black Shadow and Goldstar just to name a few of the favourites.
After the drooling and bullshitting we all jumped back on, some headed
for home, with the rest of us heading on to The Harp Irish Pub at Tempe
for yet more food and ice cold beer. We rocked the night away with
two of the great rockabilly bands going around Johnny Gretsch and the Wasted
Ones who do an excellent rendition of The Clash classic “Should I Stay
Or Should I Go” and ending with 8 Ball Baby’s unbeatable version of “These
Boots are Made for Walking. “
All in all a great day out on the bike. Hope to see you there
next year!
